Area of a rectangle

The area of a figure is represented by how many square units are inside the figure.

If a square unit is 1 centimeter long on each side, its area is 1 square centimeter. If a figure has 6 square units, its area is 6 square centimeters.

You can find the area of a rectangle by multiplying its length by its width.

The area of a rectangle = length × width

If your carpet is 4 meters long and 3 meters wide, its area is 12 square meters.

図形ずけいの面積めんせきは、その図形の中なかにいくつの正方形せいほうけいのマスが入はいっているかで表あらわします。

正方形のマスの辺へんがそれぞれ1センチメートルのとき、その面積は1平方へいほうセンチメートルです。ある図形に正方形のマスが6むっつ入っているとき、その図形の面積は6ろく平方センチメートルです。

長方形ちょうほうけいの面積は、縦たての長ながさと横よこの長さを掛かけることで求もとめられます。

長方形の面積 = 縦の長さ × 横の長さ

絨毯じゅうたんの縦の長さが4よんメートルで幅はばが3さんメートルのとき、絨毯の面積は12じゅうに平方メートルです。
